October 27th - December 1st - TRAINING UPDATE - REST THE ACHILLES

October 27th - December 1st

I've decided it is my best interests to take a full month off all running. If I want to achieve any of my goals whether it be a 12 second 100m, a 60 second 400, or even a sub 20 5k - I need to allow both my achilles tendons to heal. I so wanted to get the training in and make progress that I trained on tendons that were often sore.

After my attempts this spring and summer, I've learned a lot about how the aging body reacts to things. After the month break the plan is to engage in a rigorous rehab routine on both achilles tendons eventually culminating in the ability to be able to do some light plyometrics off the balls of the feet. Hopefully without reinjuring them this time.

In the winter I will use the local indoor track facility to do some easy tempo work and also some accelerations and speed work up to 60m. Then, as long as I am still healthy, with the TAAC grounds ready to open I will put in a few months work in the spring and hopefully achieve my 12 seconds goal.

If the achilles just don't respond to the sprint training, even after the break and rehab, I will switch over to the 5k for the remainder of the summer.
